Lakes Ranch has 30 beautiful homes located in Gunter, Texas.
Gunter is a small town in North Texas located about 40-50 miles due north
of Dallas, Texas. Gunter's population is less than 1,000! For being
such a small town, Gunter's school district has a lot to brag about!
Gunter ISD
Gunter ISD has a well deserved reputation for academic excellence.
Students at all grade levels tested have consistently scored well above
both state and group norms. Gunter High School and Elementary School
received exemplary accountability status from the State for the 1994-95
school year. The Junior High was honored with the Recognition status.
Academics
The district places a high emphasis upon academic programs. Gunter High
School competes in many academic events. GHS students compete in Literary
UIL at the district, regional, and state levels. Theses competitions
include contests in mathematics, science, journalism, literary criticism,
poetry and prose, spelling, debate, computer science, current events, and
one-act play. Highly motivated students get the opportunity to display
their academic knowledge in a county-wide QUIZ BOWL. Honors and Advanced
Placement courses afford students with the proficiency to excel on college
entry exams such as the SAT, ACT and Advanced Placement exams.
Engineering, science and technology students exhibit their robotics skills
in the regional North Texas BEST and state Texas BEST competitions
sponsored by Texas Instruments. This years Texas BEST team from Gunter
consists of 22 junior high and high school students who each won $2000
scholarships to Texas A&M University and sponsorship to US FIRST, a
national robotics competition in Orlando, Florida.
Athletics
During recent years, Gunter has produced 47 individual state qualifiers
and three state champions. The athletic teams have produced numerous
district championships, post-district championships in addition to a state
semi-finalist, a state finalist, and a 1994 state baseball championship.
The girl's basketball team was a State semi-finalist in 1995.
Extracurricular
The local 4-H, FFA, and FHA chapters fare very well at the county show and
have more entries in many areas than the surrounding larger districts. The
booster clubs that support these extracurricular endeavors contribute over
$15,000 per year to the programs.
Campuses
The district consists of three campuses. Gunter Elementary is located in
the city of Gunter and houses grades K-6. Gunter High School and Junior
High are located a mile north of Gunter on Highway 289 and includes grades
7-12. Both buildings are well maintained and well equipped with up-to-date
computer labs, local area networks, Internet connections, satellite feeds,
and instructional television capabilities. Plans are in progress for a new
middle school campus for Fall 1996.
