Denia Area Community Group Newsletter March 01

Small Area Planning District

In our February meeting Dedra Ragland, director of Denton's SAPD program, asked us to review and clarify comments from our neighborhood survey.  We spent most of the time discussing the physical aesthetics of our neighborhood. This included code enforcement, landscaping, litter and property maintenance.  We also discussed housing rehabilitation, rental property, bus stop shelters, park improvement, and public-private partnerships. Marie Torres, our area code enforcement officer, helped in answering many of our questions. We will have a meeting later in the year strictly on code enforcement. Monday's meeting will concentrate on Engineering, Drainage and Infrastructure. This will include: traffic and circulation patterns, streets, paving, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, off-street and on-street parking, and bicycle lanes. Dedra said she has invited from Denton's transportation dept.  to our meeting. We need your input and support.

Community Services

The City has a program to assist homeowners in completing small or major repairs to their homes. The program assists homeowners in determining the work needed, help in finding a contractor, monitoring the work as it is completed and paying the contractor for work completed. There is also an Emergency Repair Program to address immediate needs. The City also offers a Rental Rehabilitation Program that can provide up to 50% of the cost to
rehabilitate a rental property. As the need to rehabilitate some of the housing in our neighborhood was discussed in our last meeting, these offer some options.  Contact Alma Espino, Community Services division at 940-349-7756.

GREAT AMERICAN CLEAN UP

Saturday April 7th from 9:00 to noon we will be walking McCormick and around the neighborhood picking up trash. The City will have a recycling center for plastics, glass, metal, electronics, books, appliances, paper and clothing set up at the Civic Center Swimming Pool parking lot 515 N. Bell Ave. 8:00 till noon. They will have hazardous waste disposal and a tire drop off. It is also a free landfill day. After the clean-up a luncheon will be hosted by Papa John's Pizza at 12:00 noon at the Civic Center Park. There will be a drawing for prizes donated by area merchants.

We are developing a neighborhood web site for the use of our members. This will allow postings as to activities, garage sales, babysitting services, etc. The site is www.aboutmyhoa.com/hoa189.htm.  I am webmaster and I will be adding information, announcements and photographs.

Police Report

Officer Brian Blalock brought a chart outlining how the Denton Police Dept. defines service areas. All the area on our side of 35 is in the same group.  Officer Blalock will give us a report at each meeting as to police calls in our neighborhood for the previous month. We need volunteers to put up signs before our meeting each month.

Next Meeting March 26th  7:00 p.m. Denia Recreation Center.
The Denia Area Community Group meets on the last Monday of every month excluding December, or the next to last Monday  when holidays conflict.
